The Commissioner, Nagaland
is the head of the District Administration in the state. It functions as an
interface between the District Administration and the State Government. The
General Administration, Revenue Administration and maintenance of the general
law and order in the State is carried out through its subordinate officers in
the Districts headed by the respective Deputy Commissioners under the direct
supervision of the Office of the Commissioner, Nagaland. In short, it acts as the command and control centre of the
District Administration.
The Commissioner,
Nagaland is also the ex-officio Commandant General of the Village Guards
Organization, the ex-officio Director of Land Revenue and Border Affairs
Department, Head of Department for Civil Administrative Works Division (CAWD),
the State Election Commissioner and the Registrar, AADHAAR of the State under
UIDAI.
The Office of the Commissioner, Nagaland is
the controlling office for District Administration, where all matters relating
to Finance, Appointments, Village Recognition, Relief and Rehabilitation, Establishment
matters, etc., in regard to the District Administration are routed through it for
consideration by the Government. Moreover, bulk procurements, wherever
necessary, in respect of items such as vehicles, red blankets, furniture, etc,
are done centrally from the office of the Commissioner and then distributed to
various Administrative Headquarters as per requirements. Budget sub-allocation
is also carried out by the office of the Commissioner Nagaland for the DDOs
under District Administration. There are 43 DDOs under Commissioner, Nagaland
as on date.
To assist the Commissioner,
Nagaland in the discharge of his duties, the office is presently manned by the
following officers viz.
1 (one) Joint Commissioner (HQ), 1 (one)
Deputy Commissioner (HQ), 2 (two) Additional Deputy Commissioners (HQ), 2 (two)
Assistant Commissioners (HQ), 1(one) Accounts Officer and a host of ministerial
staff and a number of group D category employees.
