About Us

THE ORGANISATION, FUNCTIONS, POWERS AND DUTIES:

The Commissioner, Nagaland is the head of the District Administration in the state. It functions as an interface between the District Administration and the State Government. The general administration, revenue administration and maintenance of the general law and order in the state is carried out through its subordinate officers in the districts headed by the respective Deputy Commissioners under the direct supervision of the Office of the Commissioner, Nagaland. In short, it acts as the command and control centre of the District Administration

GRANTS OF PERMITS & AUTHORIZATION

Inner Line Permit(ILP)

to non-local Indian citizen for entry into the state beyond the inner line. There are two categories under this permit, the first is for tourist and is valid for 15 days. The second is for working/business persons and is valid for 3 (three) months. Fees as prescribed by the Government are charged depending on the category of permit applied for.

Special Inner Line Permit
(Special ILP):

to catholic christian missionaries who are Indian citizens for entry into the state beyond the inner line. This permit is valid for 2 (two) years. An amount of Rs.200/- (Rupees Two Hundred) only per permit is charged as administrative charges.

3. Online Inner Line Permit (ILP)
for Tourist

The Government vide Notification No.CON-3/PAP/65/10 dated 08/11/2019 had made the provision for online application and issuance of ILP for domestic tourists visiting Nagaland. Whereby as per the notification, Commissioner, Nagaland has been authorized for approval and issue of online ILP for domestic tourists. A separate and dedicated ILP Cell has been set up at Commissioner’s office for prompt disposal/approval.

Village Guard

The Commissioner, Nagaland is the Commandant General of the village guards

LAND REVENUE

The Commissioner Nagaland is the ex-officio director of Land Revenue Department. Revenue administration in the districts comes under the respective Deputy Commissioners, assisted by subordinate administrative officers.

CAWD

The Commissioner Nagaland is the Head of Department of Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD). The CAWD is the executing agency for all the infrastructural and development works under General Administration (GA) including maintenance of GA assets

BORDER AFFAIRS

The Commissioner Nagaland is the ex-officio Director of the department of border affairs. The State of Nagaland Shares a long Inter-State and International border measuring 1033 Kilometres. It shares 512 Km with Assam, 242 Km with Manipur, 64 Km with Arunachal Pradesh and 215 Km of International Border with Myanmar.

STATE ELECTION COMMISSION

The Commissioner, Nagaland is also the State Election Commissioner. The State Election Commission is a Statutory Body that came into existence through the 73rd and 74th Amendment of the Constitution of India to conduct elections to Rural and Urban Local Bodies in the States. It was constituted under the provisions of Article 243K read with Article 243ZA of the Constitution of India.

At present there are 3 (three) Municipal Councils, 36 (thirty six) Town Councils and 5 (five) Urban Station Committees.
